How highly should we VALUE biblical discernment?

When given the opportunity by God to request anything he wanted, what did King Solomon ask for? [1 Kings 3:5-15]

Why do you think Solomon asked for a discerning heart above everything else? How valuable and pleasing to God is the person with “a wise and discerning heart”?

1.   On a scale of 0 to 100, how crucial is discernment for each individual?

2.   On the same scale, how would you rate the overall level of discernment for the church, including its leaders?

3.   How would you rate yourself when it comes to discernment and passion for the truth?

4.   How often do you find yourself actually “contending for the faith” [Jude 3] as you eagerly and diligently research the Scriptures [Acts 17:11]?

5.   How willing are you to examine, enhance, refine, and even change your own beliefs, particularly when they are directly or indirectly challenged by others through the Word of God?

We all have room to grow. The sanctification

of our hearts (the conformity of our treasures,

beliefs, and desires to His) is our life-long

calling as Christians.

 6.   How often—and how well—do you “speak the truth in love” [Ephesians 4:14-15] to others who might be in error? How often do you have this done to you?
