In my journey of faith, I have experienced many seasons of doubt, anger, and confusion, especially during times of hardship. My spouse’s undiagnosed chronic illness and the constant uncertainty of when healing and relief would come created a cycle of despair, leaving me feeling alone, helpless, and distant from God. The weight of these burdens made me question God’s goodness, and I felt isolated and overwhelmed.
When I connected with Hope for Life, I found a path toward healing and peace. They helped me confront and work through my need for control, which had only intensified my struggles. Proverbs 29:11 speaks directly to this, saying, “Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.” I began to recognize that releasing control to God brought freedom and peace that I could never achieve on my own, but only through His Spirit.
One of the most transformative aspects of my counseling experience was coming to see God’s mercy and grace in the midst of our suffering. My counselor, Mark, encouraged me to look for God’s faithfulness in the small, daily mercies He provided, and to trust that He was using our challenges for a greater purpose. Romans 5:3-4 puts it beautifully: “We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” This verse became a pillar in my faith journey, reminding me that God was refining my character and strengthening my hope even through difficult circumstances.
I also began to understand the importance of obedience and surrender to God’s will. I learned that God often works through others to accomplish His will, and that by trusting His direction—even when it didn’t align with my own understanding—I could experience His grace in deeper ways. Lamentations 3:21 became a great source of hope: “Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope.” I came to understand that God’s goodness is always present, even when life is hard, and that His plans are ultimately for my good.
The resources made available by Hope for Life were another great blessing during this time. Their online materials, Bible-based articles, and devotionals provided tools that deepened my understanding of Scripture and strengthened my faith. These resources offered me comfort and insight on my journey, helping me to study God’s Word and keep my mind focused on His promises.
Today, my journey is ongoing, but my heart is full of hope. The anger and doubt that once controlled me have been replaced with a renewed trust in God’s goodness. Hope for Life has been instrumental in guiding me back to a place of faith and peace, and I am grateful for the transformation God has brought into my life through this ministry. If you’re facing struggles of your own, I encourage you to seek God, use the resources at Hope for Life, and know that His love and guidance through His Word can lead you to a place of healing and strength. – HFL Counselee
